I am a professional linguist and a Ph.D candidate at Georgetown University. I have worked at the American University in Cairo for 15 years before I decided to pursue my degree. I have presented in conferences related to teaching as in IATEFL, and TESOL.

Reviewed and edited Arabic reading and listening tests designed by the Center of Applied Linguistics for the Arabic Web Project. The job included grammatical, cultural, and usage proof reading and editing. It also comprised of suggesting better items for the questionable ones in the designed tests.

1980-1996 Full Time/Part Time English Language Instructor at The American University in
Cairo. Private tutoring to High School students and Turkish nationals.

1990-1996 Full Time English Language Instructor at The American University in Cairo, Center for Adults and Continuing Education, USAID English Language Training Program
Taught English to adult Arabic speaking learners. Levels taught: basic, elementary, intermediate and advanced. The program was geared to train adult learners in the English language preparing them for technical training and graduate studies in universities in the USA. The program was designed in a way to strike the balance between training the learners in taking and passing the TOEFL and also in teaching them how to use the language communicatively. Besides teaching, the job also included counseling students in their learning. In addition, attending and participating in professional and administrative meetings were also a major part of the job.

1988-1989 Part Time English Language Instructor at The American University in Cairo,

Substituted for a fellow teacher. Level taught: intermediate. Was responsible to train and prepare adult learners for the TOEFL exam.

1987-1988 Part Time English language Instructor at Pre- English Language Institute, The American University in Cairo
Levels taught: elementary and intermediate. Taught reading, grammar and listening to undergraduate college students at Pre- ELI. Was responsible to teach students who did not pass the English screening entrance exam. The job also included designing tests, constructing materials, and counseling students in their learning problems.

1984-1987 English Language private tutoring
Taught Turkish-speaking learners conversational and business English. Also taught Egyptian High School students high level English, and prepared them to take the TOEFL.

1981-1984 Full Time English Language Instructor at CIT/AID the American University Cairo
Levels taught: elementary, intermediate, Pre ELI and Pre ELI tutorial. Was responsible to teach and train learners from different vocational positions and governmental sectors, for example doctors, judges and engineers. Also was responsible to construct materials in listening, reading and grammar. The course was planned to meet the requirements of TOEFL preparation and communicative language teaching.

During the study for the Masters degree taught evening classes to students at The Department of Public Service. Level taught: Elementary.
